Underglaze Transfer Paper – Instructions

 

Suitable for:

  • Bisque-fired ware (800–1000 °C)
  • Dry greenware (fully dried, unfired clay)

Method 1 – Bisque-fired ware

  1. Form the piece
  2. Bisque fire to 800–1000 °C
  3. Clean the surface
  4. Lightly dampen
  5. Apply the transfer
  6. Smooth with a damp sponge or rib to remove air bubbles
  7. Carefully remove backing paper
  8. Allow to dry completely
  9. Apply clear glaze
  10. Glaze fire at 1180–1300 °C (Cone 5–9)

Method 2 – Dry Greenware

  1. Form the piece
  2. Dry completely
  3. Apply the transfer
  4. Smooth
  5. Remove backing paper
  6. Let dry
  7. Carefully glaze
  8. Glaze fire at 1180–1300 °C

Firing & Color Stability

  • Black and blue are stable within Cone 5–9
  • No fading occurs (protected under glaze)
  • Color shift may result from glaze fluidity at high temperature
  • Burning depends on individual firing conditions

Glaze Compatibility

Compatible with most medium to high temperature clear glazes (1180–1300 °C).

Best results:

  • Low to medium fluidity glazes
  • Results may vary depending on:
  • Clay body whiteness
  • Glaze thickness
  • Glaze hardness
  • Glaze flow
