Oval Drape Mold (Hump Mold) for Clay – 250 × 110 mm
Oval Drape Mold (Hump Mold) for Clay – 250 × 110 mm

The listed dimensions are the size of the tool, i.e. the wet clay. Clay shrinks during drying and firing, usually around 5–15%, and the final size of your piece always depends on your own clay and firing temperature. For example, with a 10 cm size and 12% shrinkage, the finished piece would be about 8.8 cm. Please check your clay's shrinkage before ordering and choose the size accordingly.

Shape elegant oval platters, serving-style trays and decorative dishes with this oval drape mold (also called a hump mold). Instead of pressing clay into a hollow, you shape the slab over the outside of the mold – the curved form gives your piece a gently raised rim and a smooth, even shape.
The mold measures 250 × 110 mm and is 20 mm tall. Cut your slab first with a 240 mm or 250 mm oval cutter, then drape it over the mold: choose our Oval Clay Cutter for a clean, smooth rim or the Oval Scallop Cutter for a decorative scalloped edge.
How to use
Drape over the mold: roll out a clay slab, lay it over the mold and smooth it gently into shape with a soft rib or sponge.
With a foam pad: place the slab on a piece of soft foam and press the mold down into it – the foam pushes the clay evenly around the form.
Decorate on the mold: while the slab is on the mold you can add texture, stamps or other details.
Important: clay shrinks onto a drape mold as it dries. Lift the piece off at the latest when it is leather-hard – if it is left on the mold to dry further, it may crack. (If you prefer to let the clay dry fully in the mold, choose one of our negative molds instead.)
