Foot Ring Press Tool – 3D-Printed Pottery Tool

Designed and manufactured in Finland by Icewood Atelier, this custom-designed tool is the perfect helper for finishing the bases of cups and bowls. It presses a clean, raised foot ring into the clay, giving your pottery a professional look and making glazing a breeze—you only need to wipe the foot-ring area free of glaze before firing.

The latest versions now feature handy built-in handles/pegs, making it incredibly easy to lift the tool away without smudging your work.

How to Use & Tips

This versatile foot ring tool allows you to create two different types of bases depending on whether you use the pieces together or individually:

• Traditional Raised Foot Ring: When you use the inner and outer rings together (first image), the tool presses down to leave a beautifully defined, traditional raised foot ring. This is ideal for flat-bottomed bowls and cups.
• Clean Outer Ring Boundary: You can also use just the outer ring on its own to create a crisp, professional boundary edge. As seen in the image, this method works wonderfully when using bowl that has a rounded bottom.

• Clay Thickness: The clay must be thick enough to take a clear, deep impression without making the bottom of your piece too thin.
