Collection: Drape Molds

Drape molds (also called hump molds) are used from the outside: you lay a rolled clay slab over the mold, or press the mold into a slab resting on a soft foam pad, and the clay takes on the curved shape of the form. While the slab is on the mold you can also decorate it with textures, stamps and other details.

Use a slightly firmer slab. We don’t recommend drape molds for very moist clay – soft clay doesn’t hold its shape over the form. Let the slab firm up a little before draping.

Remember: clay shrinks onto a drape mold as it dries, so lift your piece off at the latest when it is leather-hard – left on the mold longer, it may crack. If you’d rather work with moist clay, have more control over the shape, or let the clay dry fully in the mold, take a look at our Negative Molds instead.

Drape molds pair with our matching cutters, so you can trim the slab to exactly the right size before shaping. All molds are 3D-printed from PLA in our workshop in Finland and are not intended for food use.
